St Finbarres Scout Group was founded in April 1930 to provide Scouting activities for
the boys in the Choir of St FinBarres Cathedral. The Cub Pack was added in 1931,Venture Scouts in 1968 and Beavers in 1978.The
Group has always maintained the link with St FinBarres and still has
some choir boys and girls included in the Membership. The Group has used St
Finbarres Hall in Dean Street as its main base for most of its years of operation. Today the Group operates a Beaver Lodge (6 - 8 yrs), Cub Pack (9 - 11 yrs), Scout Troop (12 - 14 yrs), Venture (15 - 17 yrs) & Rover (18 - 20 yrs) Section and is open to boys and girls of every faith and background from the age of 6 - 20 years old. St Finbarres Scout Group is a member of the national body for scouting in Ireland - Scouting Ireland. Support for local scouting from Scouting Ireland is provided though a network of 'provinces' each containing 6 - 9 'scout counties' and each 'county' containing 10 - 12 Scout Groups. We are a member of Lee Valley Scout County which in turn is part of the Southern Province. Adults are always welcome to the Group, if you feel you wish to volunteer your skills or time to the Group please contact the Group Leader Alan Wolfe. |
